About

My teaching philosophy is one that has developed and continues to develop with each class I teach. I have taught on the east and west coast: preschool students with autism; first grade; third grade; middle school academically talented students; and adults in the prison system, at the community college, and at the graduate level. My learning has been enhanced through these classroom opportunities, and then through reflection. I have then learned to grab hold of professional opportunities and submerge myself in enthusiasm to help create success in the classroom. My communication with my colleagues and professional development need to be constant; through this past year, I have heard or read the following five quotes which I feel represent who I am in the classroom:

  • “The human brain has the largest area of uncommitted cortex (no particular required function) of any species on earth.  This gives humans extraordinary flexibility and capacity for learning.” Eric Jensen
  • “I not only use all the brains that I have, but all that I can borrow.” Woodrow Wilson
  • “If you are not prepared to be wrong, you can’t be creative.” Sir Ken Robinson
  • “Every storm runs out of rain.” Maya Angelou
  • "When girls are educated, their countries become stronger and more prosperous." Michelle Obama
